November 1982: Arnie Brandon purchased a new DeLorean
automobile. Feeling very alone in that the producing factory in Ireland
had shut down and US dealers were also disbanding, Arnie felt a need for
companionship. So he put together a list of other DeLorean owners by
talking to all the dealers in the Seattle area, stopping DeLoreans seen
driving down the road and any other hearsay contacts.
February 26, 1983: After sending out 60 notices or
invitations to form and/or join a DeLorean club, a meeting was held at the
Issaquah Holiday Inn. Twelve DeLoreans showed up that day and the Pacific
Northwest DeLorean Club was formed. Mr. Greg McDonald was our first
president. A yearly membership dues of $15.00 was voted upon by the newly
formed Club. These dues were collected to pay for mailing costs, printing
costs (newsletters, club rosters and after market parts lists). The
remaining moneys were used by the club to at least partly supply Club
gatherings and celebrations. On December 8, 1992, PNDC was established as
a non-profit corporation in the state of Washington.
While the Club knows of some 175 DeLoreans in the
northwest area, our membership has remained relatively constant at about
100 members. PNDC schedules many happenings during any given year. To
celebrate our heritage, our Club offers a corned beef and cabbage bash
each St. Patrick’s Day. For the speedsters, PNDC occasionally joins the
Alfa Romeo club as it stages racing days. The Club promotes a DeLorean car
rally. Car shows, parades, tech. sessions and brunches plus any other
events that we can fit into the schedule as members submit ideas.
Today our Club continues to be more and more valuable to
our members as parts become more and more scarce. PNDC also serves our
members as a vehicle to show our cars once in a while and serves as a
reason to get them out of our garages.
It is hoped that the rust proof, gull winged beauties will live much longer with the
help of the PNDC.
Profile:
Club dues are currently set at $20.00 per calendar year for US residents
and $25.00 per year for non-US residents (to cover the additional
postage). PNDC publishes four newsletters per year of four to six
pages each. Due to the close proximity of many of the members, substantial
communication is maintained between the members and with the Club
officers. Each year, all paid members are sent an updated membership list,
the Club’s yearly activities calendar and an extensive after-market parts interchange
list.
The PNDC calendar provides an extensive list of events
which PNDC either sponsors or participates in as a club. The Club plans at
least four events per year that are funded primarily from the Club
treasury. The 2006 event calendar had twenty-one events scheduled,
including tech. sessions, car shows, picnic, parties, tours and the yearly
(three day) Blarney Ball Rally. Additional events are participated in as
information and dates are acquired.
The PNDC Parts Interchange List provides members with
extensive information on readily available parts which can be used in
place of DeLorean parts (many are identical to the original). This list
has been compiled and updated based on inputs from the membership.
The Club’s assets as of January 2007 include the Club
treasury of approximately $5,000.00 (which includes a significant portion
of pre-paid 2007 dues) and a complete DeLorean fiberglass underbody. The
underbody is mounted on a trailer with DeLorean wheels and NCT tires and
is shown at mall shows, parades, etc. The first newsletter of each year
includes a complete treasury balance sheet for the previous year, showing
categorized income and expenditures.
As of January 2007 the Club had about 90 members. This
number has not changed significantly over the last few years.
As stated in the club by-laws, PNDC is dedicated to
preserving and enhancing the DeLorean marquee, and having fun while
accomplishing this aim. Toward this end, PNDC communicates openly with
other clubs to exchange information, ideas, methods, etc.
PNDC is not a chapter of, or officially affiliated with
any other DeLorean clubs or associations. But PNDC members are free to
become independent members of any other clubs.
