Spokane Weekend - 2009

Once again we had great weather for this annual weekend event in Spokane.  Jeff and Wendy Linstad, Gary and Taryn Hull, and Toby and Misty Peterson caravanned over Friday afternoon.  We arrived just in time to get settled at the hotel and then join the rest of the crew;  Ray, Charlene and Lyle Applegate, Frank Young, Wayne and Wendy Denman, and brand new PNDC member Richard Slaten for dinner.

Saturday, we girls sent the guys off for the tech session at Ray and Charlene Applegate’s place (see related article for more details).  At a more decent hour, we left the hotel, went shopping, had lunch, lounged around the outdoor pool soaking up some sun and then did more shopping.

After what was apparently a very successful tech session, those of us participating in the Parade (Petersons, Hulls, Linstads, Denmans, Frank and Richard) joined back up at the hotel and headed over to the staging area.  As always, the crowd really enjoyed seeing the DeLoreans and of course asked “Where’s the flux capacitor?” and this year we actually had TWO cars with them.

On Sunday, thanks to Wendy and having DeLoreans, we had reservations at a weekend breakfast spot that is so popular they normally won’t allow reservations!  Most of us (the Hulls and Richard unfortunately had to leave early) had a leisurely, wonderful breakfast and then regretfully said our goodbyes and parted company until next time.

Spokane Tech Session - 2009

The annual PNDC-sponsored tech session to support the Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Services Torchlight Parade has become an event that all parade participants and other local DeLorean owners look forward to.  The tech session was held again this year at the home of Ray and Charlene Applegate in their large shop that we affectionately call “The Blimp Hangar.”

The tradition of this tech session began many years ago when the Club first began to attend this fabulous parade that is dedicated to the armed services.  The original purpose of this tech session was to make sure that all the cars in the parade would be able to make it through without any embarrassing breakdowns or overheating issues.

This year, the tasks accomplished included the installation of a new clutch master cylinder in one car, bleeding the air out of the clutch hydraulic system of another car, and getting a third car running after a period of storage.  As always, there was a lot of cleaning, primping, and polishing going on as the parade goers got ready for the nighttime parade.

A special Club “Thank You” goes to the Applegate’s for their generosity again this year in hosting us for the Tech Session.  The author would also like to extend a personal “Thank You” to Jeff Linstad for his efforts in getting Winded1 cleaned up for the parade while I was working on some of the other cars.  Jeff – your unselfish service to your fellow club members does not go unnoticed!
